Always remember, when you wear the Air Cadet uniform, you are representing 754 Phoenix Squadron, Royal Canadian Air Cadets, and Cadets of Canada as a whole. Make sure to look your best and be on your best behaviour. Unprofessional deportment such as chewing gum, slouching, hands in pockets, smoking, walking hand-in-hand, and other physical displays of affection are unacceptable at any cadet activity or while wearing the Air Cadet uniform.

Uniform Parts

Headdress	Wedge Primary form of headdress for Air Cadets. It is worn centered on the head, two finger widths above the eyebrows and tilted to the right (4 fingers above left ear, 2 fingers above right ear)Wide-brimmed Hat (Tilley) The Tilley shall be worn for sports and outdoor activities. It is to be worn square on the head with the string used to secure at the back of the head. Toque The toque may be worn outside in cold weather, as directed by the Officer in Charge. Beret (non-issued) The beret may be worn with the uniform on a case-by-case basis, as directed by the Officer in Charge. Ballcap (non-issued) The ballcap may be worn during outdoor and sports activities in lieu of the Tilley, as directed by the Officer in Charge. Ballcaps need to be conservative in style, and monochrome in colour.
Shirt	Short-sleeved Dress Shirt Primary upper garment worn during training and parades. It shall be kept clean and wrinkle-free. The only crease is to be down the centre of each sleeve starting at the centre of each epaulet. Rank slip-ons shall be worn on the shirt epaulets. The shirt shall be tucked into the pants at all times.In warmer weather (Spring, Summer), the dress shirt is worn with the top button unfastened. In colder weather (Autumn, Winter), the top button is fastened and worn with a necktie. Elemental Shirt The Elemental Shirt for Air Cadets is dark blue in colour. It is worn during sports activities, as well during summer training. It shall be wrinkle free at all times. Crew Neck Sweater In colder climate, the crew neck sweater may be worn in lieu of the dress shirt. It may be worn by itself, or under the tunic. Sleeves shall not be rolled up.
Jacket	Tunic The tunic is the formal jacket of the cadet uniform. It is worn over the dress shirt (with necktie) on all formal occasions. It shall always be fully buttoned, with the exception of the top button, and shall be kept clean and wrinkle-free. The sleeves of the jacket shall have no creases. The cloth tunic belt shall be worn so the excess of the belt (not more than 8 cm) is on the left side of the buckle. The buckle shall be centered on the uniform. Nothing is to be carried in the tunic pockets, and all pocket flaps shall be buttoned at all times.All-season Jacket (Parka) The Parka may be worn year round when weather conditions dictate. The liner and the exterior jacket may be worn separately or as a set. Rank slip-ons and Elemental Badge shall be worn on the outside. Sweater (non-issued) As permitted, the sweater may be worn over the dress shirt. Hoodies (non-issued) Hoodies of a conservative nature may be worn on the outside when in sportswear, as directed by the Officer in Charge.
Pants	Trousers The trousers shall be pressed so as to have creases down the centre of each leg in the front and the back. Creases in the front shall extend from the first belt loops to the bottom of the legs. Creases in the back shall extend from the back centre belt loop to the bottom of the legs. Creases shall not be sewn or glued. Do not carry bulky items in the pockets.Grey Shorts The Grey Shorts shall be worn during sports activities. Shorts (non-issued) Shorts of a conservative nature may be worn in lieu of Grey Shorts during sports activities, as directed by the Officer in Charge.
Footwear	Boots Black ankle boots should be cleaned and polished on a regular basis. The whole boot is to be polished, not just the toe. The areas of the boot where the sole meets the leather are to be cleaned and blackened with an old toothbrush and black polish. Boots are to be laced horizontally from side-to-side. When the boot laces are tied, the ends of the laces are to be tucked inside the boot.Running Shoes Issued running shoes or conservative civilian running shoes are to be worn during summer training sports activities. They are worn with plain white or grey civilian socks.
Miscellaneous	Wool Socks Grey wool socks shall be worn with boots. If a cadet suffers from a recognized allergy to wool, the cadet may wear grey cotton or nylon socks with approval from the Supply Officer.Black Belt with Silver Buckle The black belt with silver buckle shall always be worn with the cadet trousers. The buckle is to be centered with the brass end meeting the brass buckle with no black showing between the two. The belt length will need to be adjusted in order for this to occur. Necktie The black necktie shall be worn with the dress shirt under the tunic on formal occasions. It shall be knotted neatly using a Windsor knot and kept tight. When tied, it will extend to the middle of the pants belt buckle. Rank Slip-ons c Black Gloves Issued black gloves or plain black civilian gloves may be worn with the all-season jacket in cold weather. Nametag Your first nametag will be provided to you by the squadron free of charge. For all subsequent nametags, cadets will need order and pay the nametags through the squadron. It is worn centered over the right breast pocket of the short sleeve dress shirt and tunic. Pins Only authorized pins may be worn on the tunic and dress shirt. Poppy The Remembrance Day poppy shall be worn on the uniform on Remembrance Day (November 11th) and for a total of two weeks prior to Remembrance Day. The poppy is worn centered on the left pocket flap of the tunic.

Uniform Care:

When ironing creases into clothing, starch should be used for a crisp look. A pressing cloth made from an old pillow case or thin towel should always be used between the iron and clothing to prevent the fabric from becoming shiny or burning. Always use steam when ironing. This will help to remove wrinkles.

Badges & Sleeves

Shoulder Badge	The Shoulder Badges are to be worn on both sleeves of the jacket (tunic) only. The top of the badge is to be 2 cm below the shoulder upper seam.
Ranks	Non Warrant Officers: Rank Badges are to be worn centred on both sleeves, mid-way between the elbow and the shoulder upper seam. Warrant Officers: Worn centered on both sleeves with the bottom of the badge 9 cm above the top of the cuff. Or, either: 1 cm above the third row of Summer Courses Qualification Badges; or 1 cm above the Proficiency Level Badge which is 1 cm above the second row of Achievement and Certification Badges In all cases, both badges must be at the same height.
Proficiency Level	These badges are to be worn centered on the left sleeve of the jacket, where the bottom of the badge is immediately above the top of the cuff. If any Achievement and Certification Badge(s) is worn, the Proficiency Level Badge is worn 1cm above that. Note only the most senior badge is worn. Warrant Officers are to retain their Proficiency Level Badge on their tunic.
Achievement & Certification	These badges are worn immediately above the top of the left cuff. They are worn in the order that they were awarded (see Sleeves and Badge Placement tab above for diagram). The first badge is centered immediately above the cuff of the uniform jacket; The second badge awarded is placed immediately to the right of the first badge, to the front of the sleeve; The third is placed immediately to the left of the first badge, to the rear of the sleeve; The fourth badge is placed immediately above the first badge, forming a second row; and The fifth badge is placed immediately to the right of the fourth badge.
Summer Course Qualifications	These badges are worn immediately above the top of the right cuff. They are worn in the order that they were awarded (see Sleeves and Badge Placement tab above for diagram). The first badge is centered immediately above the cuff of the uniform jacket; The second badge awarded is placed immediately to the left of the first badge, to the front of the sleeve; The third is placed immediately to the right of the first badge, to the rear of the sleeve; The fourth, fifth and sixth badges are placed immediately above badges one, two and three forming a second row of badges and they are placed in the same order as the first row; and If a seventh badge is awarded, it shall be placed immediately over the fourth badge.
Pilot Wings	The Pilot Wings are to be worn centered, 0.5 cm above medal ribbons on the left breast pocket. If no medal ribbons are worn, wings shall be centered and placed immediately above the left breast pocket. NOTE: If a cadet successfully completes both Glider and Power, only the Power Pilot Wings shall be worn.

Boots & Boot Laces

How To Lace Your Parade Boots:

Straight Across Method: No visible underlaces except at the top of the boot.

Parade Boot Polishing Technique:

1. Take your Kiwi polish and take the lid off.

2. Fill the lid with room temperature water.

3. Take your Kiwi cloth and wind part of it around your index finger.

4. Apply a generous coat of polish to your boot, applying it in a circular pattern.

5. Leave your boots overnight.

6. Dab you Kiwi cloth-covered finger into the water.

7. Dab the same finger into the polish but don’t put too much polish on. A tiny amount will do.

8. Go over your boots in the same circular pattern and work them until there are no water droplets left on your boot.

Note: The best polish for your boots is just regular black Kiwi polish. Don’t use Kiwi Parade Gloss or the Express sponge, just keep it plain and simple.

Hairstyles

Male Cadets:

Hair shall be neatly groomed and conservatively styled. Bizarre or exaggerated styles or colours (green, purple, etc.) are not permitted. Male cadets will be clean shaven at all times when in uniform. Hair shall be taper trimmed at the back, sides, and above the ears. It shall be kept free from the neck to a distance of 2.5 cm (1 in.) above the shirt collar. No hair shall touch the ears or fall below the top of the eyebrows. Shaving of all the hair on the head is also permitted.

Sideburns – Sideburns shall not extend below a line horizontally bisecting the ear, and shall be squared off horizontally at the bottom edge and taper trimmed to conform to the overall hairstyle.

Beards – Only cadets adherent of the Sikh religion or cadets experiencing recognized medical problems preventing them from shaving may wear a beard. If you fall into either of these categories, please see the Supply Officer.

Female Cadets:

Hair shall be neatly groomed and conservatively styled. Bizarre or exaggerated styles or colours (green, purple, etc.) are not permitted. Hair shall not extend below the lower edge of the shirt collar. Hair must be secured or styled back to reveal the face. Any accessories used to secure or control hairstyles (bobby pins) shall blend with the hair colour.

Accessories

Backpacks: Civilian backpacks of a conservative pattern may be either carried in the left hand or worn suspended from both shoulders and square on the back.

Civilian Clothing: Other than those specific items listed, civilian clothing shall not be worn combined with the cadet uniform. This includes, but is not limited to, civilian jackets and hats.

Eyeglasses and sunglasses: Conservative designs and colours may be worn when needed. Sunglasses with mirrored lenses are not allowed.

Jewellery: Only a wristwatch, medical alert bracelet, and a maximum of one ring per hand (not costume) may be worn. In addition, female cadets may wear a single pair of plain gold, silver, or white pearl stud earrings in the centre of each pierced earlobe. The studs shall be spherical in shape and not exceed 0.6 cm in diameter. Clear, colourless spacers may also be worn while ears are healing after a piercing. No other piercings (including tongue) may be worn at any time. Male cadets are not authorized to wear any piercings (including earrings).

Make-up: Female cadets are authorized to wear a minimal amount of make-up when in uniform. False eyelashes, heavy eyeliner, brightly coloured eye shadow or lipstick, coloured nail polish, or excessive facial make-up are not allowed.

Tattoos: Cadets shall not acquire visible tattoos that could be deemed to be offensive (e.g. sexually explicit or suggestive, blasphemous, racist, sexist or homophobic, etc.) or otherwise reflect discredit on the Canadian Cadet Organisation. Cadets in uniform should also refrain from drawing temporary markings on their skin, including reminder notes, etc.

Undergarments: Are required to be worn at all times when in uniform. Brassieres, for female cadets, shall be worn under all uniforms and shall be of an appropriate colour so as not to be visible through the uniform. Undershirts may be worn as long as they are not visible.
